Much like Storm Claudia tore through the northwest the night before, Manchester City blew United away at the their home ground. It was a convincing 3-0 win for Andrée Jeglertz’s side thanks to goals from Rebecca Knaak, Shaw and Lauren Hemp. It was a result that truly announced their championship potential as they reinforced their position at the league summit.

Consecutive Setbacks for Manchester United

This result signalled back-to-back league losses for Marc Skinner’s side for the maiden instance since May 2024, leaving them seven points off the table toppers with their championship aspirations severely dented.

Manchester United's capacity to balance domestic and continental soccer with a thin team has been a widely debated issue since they secured entry to the Champions League. Looking at the schedule, it always felt like this was the period that would seriously challenge this capability. Unfortunately for the visitors, they seemed fatigued all game, the landmark win against the French side clearly having left its mark.

Team Changes

Marc Skinner had attempted to make changes with a several changes. Toone, Terland, Janssen and Galton all provided energy, although the exclusion of the high-performing Malard to the bench was questioned.
