The EU might “act quickly and firmly” in response to what it calls “unjustified” visa bans imposed by the US against five European individuals involved in fighting digital hatred and misinformation, an EU official stated.
European Leaders Decry US Action as ‘Intimidation’
Officials from Europe including the French president accused Washington of “bullying and threats”, following the visa restrictions were placed on individuals who have been central to efforts to enact laws governing US-based technology firms.
“For far too long, ideologues in Europe have spearheaded coordinated campaigns to pressure American platforms to suppress American viewpoints they disagree with,” wrote the US secretary of state in a social media post. “The current administration will not stand for these egregious acts of extraterritorial censorship.”

The bans were imposed this week against an ex-European commissioner who helped draft the bloc’s Digital Services Act (DSA), as well as several anti-disinformation campaigners, from Germany and the United Kingdom.
